Legislation

The setting of cookies is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and sit alongside the Data Protection Act (DPA) and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are and how we use them. You should read this policy to understand what cookies are, how we use them, the types of cookies we use; for example, the information we collect using cookies and how that information is used and how to control the cookie preferences. For further information on how we use, store and keep your personal data secure, see our Privacy Policy.

You can at any time change or withdraw your consent from the Cookie declaration on our website.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are used to store small pieces of information. The cookies are stored on your device when the website is loaded on your browser.

Cookies can be useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.

Without cookies, or some other similar method, websites would have no way to ‘remember’ anything about visitors, such as how many items are in a shopping basket or whether they are logged in.

Categories of Cookies

Cookies are divided into two categories, necessary (essential) for the functionality of the website and non-necessary (non-essential).

They are also then classified in numerous ways by “types” of cookies:

Session Cookies - cookies that expire at the end of a browser session (normally when a user exits their browser)

Persistent Cookies - cookies that can be stored for longer.

First-party cookies are set directly by the website the user is visiting, for example, the URL displayed in the browser's address bar.

Third-party cookies are set by a domain other than the one the user is visiting. This typically occurs when the website incorporates elements from other sites, such as images, social media plugins or advertising. When the browser or other software fetches these elements from the other sites, they can set cookies as well.

Use of Cookies by this website

This website only uses cookies which are necessary for the website to function as intended and protect its visitors.

Within the necessary category of cookies, we may use a combination of session and persistent, first-party cookies.

These are only used to provide information for  “Google Analytics” and in no way are they used to track any users data or information.

Under Regulation 6(4)(1)(b) of the PECR, setting cookies in this instance is exempt from the requirement to collect an individual’s consent before setting them.

However, in order to remain compliant with the data protection & privacy legislation and being clear, concise and transparent, we are providing this information for you.
